The work focuses on "huamo," a traditional type of decorative steamed bread from northern China, used in rituals and celebrations. It explores the interconnected agricultural history, ritual culture, folk traditions, food industry, and post-technological advancements behind this practice.
The artist, influenced by the folk culture of the region they live in, observes that huamo is more than just food; it serves as a bridge between history and the modern world. Through mediums like sculpture and video, the project uses huamo as a ritual food to build a complex and structured narrative, illustrating the spiral of development from traditional agriculture to modern industry. The evolution of huamo mirrors the cultural and ecological landscape of folk traditions, creating a vivid portrayal of the intertwined history and culture of northern China.
